In perhaps the first case of its kind in the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has revoked the Indian citizenship of TRS MLA from Vemulawada, Ramesh Chennamaneni. In its order on Wednesday, the ministry accused the MLA of fraud by concealing information about his trips to Germany before applying for Indian citizenship. The rules state that a person who applies for citizenship must reside in the country continuously for one year before making the application, which Chennamaneni is charged with flouting.
