    Elderly unaware of rights, vulnerable to abuse

    Shardha (name changed), a 74-year-old retired teacher was abandoned two months ago by her children on the streets of Secunderabad. With nowhere to go, she roamed aimlessly for days before an NGO rescued her. Shardha's daughter and son-in-law refused to take her back or provide maintenance amount to her.
